The Story:

On September 9th, 2020 here in the San Francisco Bay Area - we woke up to the eeriest set of apocalyptic skies I’ve ever witnessed. Not to mention it was also in the middle of the first wave of the pandemic, which lead to the dread and uncertainty - but this was quite a few notches up from just the grocery stores being out of toilet paper. This was ominous as hell.

I took my camera to Skyline Blvd in the hopes of capturing some orange and yellow shots of the reservoir, but the smoky air was so thick, I couldn’t see beyond the tree line. I still took some shots, one of my SUV headlights looking like it was midnight but it was noon…

Apocalypse Is Coming - The first piece in the series: NFT by Jeff Straw Branding

So I went to Foster City to the lake down there, thinking the low-lying areas might have better visibility and I was right. This led to some good footage and images, as well as time for me to shoot a vlog.

But I knew I wanted to create something heavier than the vlog - something that echoed the feelings of that day. It took me a couple years to circle back to the images and videos I had shot - and I decided to create an ominous and dramatic soundtrack to accompany them. And thus - my Apocalypse series was born. The images and video clips themselves had the vibe, but it wasn’t until I started writing music for these pieces that they really started coming to life. I’ve never written music in this style before - cinematic, dark, brooding… and it was not only inspiring but challenging.
